Regardless of age, race, culture or creed, we humans choose to hold certain people, place and things as “sacred.” Being extremely subjective, what is considered sacred to one person or group of people is considered ordinary to another. In the same way, some esteem certain practices or objects as sacred, while others view them as profane. How can this be? What are the “rules” for deciding what is sacred and what is not? And, who decides? Is it a personal choice, a consensus or something that is hard-wired into the fabric of humanity itself?

My curious mission for this project is to explore what people consider “sacred” by photographing those people, places and things and sharing them with you. Over the course of the next year, beginning September 1st, 2011, I will post one photograph a day revealing my discoveries of what is sacred!

So let me ask you…what is sacred to you and why? Please feel free to share your responses in the comments area below.
