Once upon a time, in a garden large and fair, I chanced to see two bees rise up and circle for a time around a gorgeous plant, a flowering red valerian. The gentle creatures dipped and swirled, touching lightly to sip upon the sweet nectar offered in its blooms. The flower, shrewd and cunning in “the way” that’s always been, offered its sweet drink as reward to the winged heroes for a job they’ve all done well. And in return for their reward, the bees unwittingly agree to perform their sacred dance of time, leaving pollen dusted on their bellies to ensure that life goes on.
