God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass – grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.

~Mother Teresa

Hold these beads in your hands and pray. Lift your unspoken voice to the clouds where every thought reaches God…

No longer round, from years of rubbing and twisting and twirling, the beads felt comfortable in her hands. She knew every link in the chain, every bead on the links and every prayer in the book. Her face held the memory of years spent walking the Stations of the Cross and saying prayers, asking for forgiveness and pleading for redemption.

Then, after the last our father, she would turn and humbly move to the alter to light a candle. Her eyes were bright, her smile illuminating. She carried the grace of God in every movement. In her presence, the promise of hope and faith were felt at the core of one’s soul.

“Carry God’s message of love with you wherever you go,” she would say. “Remain humble in your service, and know you are blessed.” The soft clicking of the beads echoed in the air and remained in the memory of this precious moment.
